A Bloodstone and Gold Signet Ring
circa 1880
A Victorian era antique 14K greenish yellow gold ring is set with a flat oval heliotrope – a variety of chalcedony, also known as bloodstone.
This stone is a classical example of a bloodstone – very dark green with numerous fine inclusions of red jasper.
The red inclusions are supposed to resemble spots of blood.
The shoulders of the ring are hand engraved with floral decorations.
The shank is stamped inside with maker’s initials.
