This unusual marquise shaped antique ring can be a unique engagement ring. The ring was made in Moscow between 1899 and 1908.
It is handcrafted in rose gold and set with 23 round cut sparkling demantoid garnets. The demantoids display needle like inclusions known as “horsetails” which confirm the Ural Mountains origin of the gems.
The color is golden green. Demantoid is renowned for its sparkle, and it is one of the rarest and most expensive green color gemstones. Antique rings with demantoids are especially rare.
Demantoid has been known for its youthful exhilarating nature, as if the stone has accumulated the brightness of a sunny day and the freshness of the early spring greens.
The term ‘marquise’ refers to the shape of the ring. There is also a diamond cut bearing the same name. Marquise cut diamonds first appeared in France in the mid 18th century, during the reign of King Louis XV, who commissioned his court jeweler to create a diamond cut to resemble the beautiful shape of the mouth of his mistress, the Marchioness Madame de Pompadour. This shape is also known as – navette.
