A SUPERB Antique Brass Mounted Wooden Jewelry Box in the Form of an Ancient Russian Chest, circa 1913,
completely covered with finely chased brass appliques and further decorated with colored cabochon glass inserts.
Height – 10 1/4 in. (26 cm), Width – 8 in. (20 cm), Depth – 3 3/4 in. (9,7 cm)
The box is believed to be presented to the Czarist family. It is likely that before the revolution, the box was kept in a special room of the Alexander palace, where similar gifts were housed.
The front and back are chased with identical double headed eagles, stylized floral designs, and a view of a medieval Russian city.
