A very rare tin candy box, circa 1912, with the portrait of Tsarevich Alexei (1904-1918), the son of Nicholas II. Height 2 1/2 in. (6,1 cm). Length 5 3/8 in. (13,5 cm). Condition: moderate overall wear.
Tsarevich is depicted in the uniform of the Life-Guard Rifle Regiment of The Imperial Family, with the chain and breast star of the Order of St. Andrew, the red sash and star of the Order of St. Alexander Nevsky.
Inscription in Russian reads: “HIS IMPERIAL HIGHNESS HEIR AND GRAND DUKE ALEXEI NIKOLAEVICH.”
Decorated on the side walls with an Imperial coat of arms flanked by a prize medal with profile bust of Nicholas II and an Italian prize medal with bust of king Victor Emmanuel III. Inscription below the medals reads: “Supplier of the Court of Her Highness Princess Eugenia Maximilianovna of Oldenburg.”
